Composite Automation Starts with Precise Material Control
At CAMX 2026, Mikrosam will present its latest Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) systems, together with in-house prepreg slitting and rewinding technology. Visitors can meet the Mikrosam team at the show and see how advanced composite automation can be made more accessible, flexible and cost-effective.
With more than 35 years of experience in composite manufacturing automation, Mikrosam supplies turnkey systems across the full production chain – from material preparation and conversion to part manufacturing and digital process control. At CAMX, the company will focus on making AFP practical for a wider range of users and applications, including markets beyond traditional aerospace.
Mikrosam’s next-generation AFP systems are designed as modular and scalable platforms, suitable for research centers, prototyping, and industrial production. The machines support both thermoset and thermoplastic materials and dry-fiber, with tape widths from ¼”, ½” up to 2”. Advanced robotic control, optimized tape handling and optional in-situ consolidation help manufacturers achieve accurate placement, repeatable quality and a quicker return on investment. Mikrosam offers several machine configurations to accommodate different component sizes, geometries and production environments. These include robotic cells, low-rail gantry systems and high-rail gantry platforms. Mikrosam AFP systems are used by aerospace, defense and research organizations including NIAR, Qarbon Aerospace, McNAIR and GKN Fokker, where process consistency and structural performance are essential.

Another key highlight will be Mikrosam’s prepreg slitting and rewinding equipment, developed to give manufacturers greater control over material availability, quality and production scheduling while reducing dependence on external suppliers. The systems convert wide prepreg master rolls into narrow tapes for AFP and ATL applications, achieving slit-width accuracy of ±0.125 mm. Bringing this process in-house can shorten lead times, reduce material waste and simplify the testing and qualification of new materials. Integrated tension control, inspection and traceability ensure stable, repeatable processing in both R&D and industrial production environments. Mikrosam has achieved record sales of its prepreg slitting systems in the United States, reflecting growing demand for flexible, in-house material-processing capabilities.


Mikrosam will also present its automated filament winding solutions, including multi-spindle machines with advanced process control and an improved automatic cut-and-restart system for pipes and other small-diameter products. Full SCADA and manufacturing historian integration support data-driven, high-volume production.
